Have you ever wondered how many inventions women have made? Can you imagine how many of them you are using right now and don't even realize it?

On the occasion of International Women's Day, we decided to tell you about 5 women-innovators whose genius is behind unique inventions that have changed our lives. So, get ready: we are sure that something from our top picks will definitely surprise you!

Women-inventors: Top 5 according to Orxata Jewelry

Coco Chanel: The invention that freed hands

It's hard to find someone who hasn't heard of Chanel and their legendary bags, especially the Chanel 2.55. However, it is more than just an iconic model. It's a symbol of freedom, elegance, and sophisticated rebellion, as it's the first handbag with a shoulder strap in history! Just imagine: before Coco Chanel's invention, women's hands were always busy with their clutches. The brilliant Coco was the first to equip a woman's bag with a chain, which allowed women to wear it over the shoulder, freeing up the hands.

The revolutionary design was born out of Coco's observations of nuns carrying keys on chains. This simple but ingenious idea to free women's hands from the handbag changed fashion and our everyday life forever.

Josephine Cochrane: The woman who changed our kitchen

If you've ever had a lot of dirty dishes in front of you (especially after hosting guests) and didn't wash them yourself, but delegated it to a dishwasher, you can thank Josephine Cochrane. It was she who invented the first automatic dishwasher, which she patented in 1886.

Her invention was the answer to a problem: the servants kept breaking the family's expensive porcelain while washing them by hand. So, Josephine, the daughter of an engineer and the granddaughter of the inventor of the first American steamboat, took control of the situation and created a device that opened the era of modern household appliances.

Mary Anderson: The idea that changed the automobile industry

Can you imagine a car without wipers? No? And that's exactly how it was until the early 20th century. Drivers had to manually wipe their windshields while getting out of the car in the rain or snow.

This problem was solved by Mary Anderson when she designed the first mechanical car windshield wipers in November 1903. Her system consisted of a rubber brush on the outside and a special lever to control it from inside the car.

It is interesting to note that at first, car manufacturers dismissed her idea. However, later on, no car was left without wipers, especially after this invention was introduced to Cadillac.

Marie Phelps Jacob: Freedom instead of corsets

Until the early 20th century, women had to wear uncomfortable corsets that not only restricted their movements but also harmed their health. Marie Phelps Jacob, unwilling to put up with these inconveniences, created an alternative - a bra made of lightweight fabric and ribbons.

The convenience of wearing such a wardrobe item quickly captivated women, and a few years later it began to replace the corset. Marie's invention became a real revolution in women's fashion and gave women a new level of comfort.

Olena Kucherniuk: Invention of jewelry that adapts to you

Designers create beauty, engineers create functionality. Olena Kucherniuk, the founder of Orxata Jewelry, the daughter and granddaughter of engineers like Josephine Cochrane, has combined these two worlds by inventing the Cuff-Necklace and Cuff-Ring. These unique pieces of jewelry can transform into an elegant necklace, a ring, or an accent ear cuff, the shape, size, and design of which transform right on the body. And these are just two of her creations.

Just imagine, one piece of jewelry can be transformed in 3, 7 or even 10 ways, replacing almost the entire jewelry wardrobe! This is where beauty, functionality, and conscious consumption meet.

Women's inventions cover all areas of life, from fashion to high technology. Their ideas continue to change the world today, making it more convenient and beautiful. This coming Women's Day, don't forget to thank those women who inspire you every day and make your life better, even if not with inventions but with such valuable support and love!
